2pac – Better Dayz

Rating: 7/10

Best Track: They Don’t Give a Fuck About Us

So, the legendary rapper comes out with another album which isn’t looking to be quite the best 2pac CD, but still a good one. Afeni Shakur, 2pac’s mother, released the album which alters the beats of the underground songs, which you could hear by downloading bootlegs.

The CD starts off with the “Intro” which will be great for the conspiracy nuts. Basically talking about how everyone is wondering where these songs, that are still relevant today, are coming from.

The first track is “Still Balling” which features Trick Daddy. The beat is pretty good, and the lyrics are straight. Basically about him still in the rap game, which is definitely true even after his death.

Next comes “When We Ride On Our Enemies”. The beat sounds pretty nice, and this is a diss to all his enemies such as The Fugees and Mobb Deep. It’s a solid track, but not as good as Hit Em Up.

The next song is “Changed Man”, which has more of a party beat to it. It’s a good song, but too much bling bling talk by the guest appearance.

“Fuck Em All” comes next, which isn’t the best song on the album. It just doesn’t sound like a 2pac beat. The song all around isn’t too good.

Next up is “Never Be Peace”, which is a pretty damn good song. The beat is Indian-sounding, but works really well. He’s basically saying that there will never be world peace, because there will always be the killers.

“Mamma’s Just a Little Girl” is an pretty good track. It sounds like a 2pac beat this time, because of the guitar in the background, which is featured in several of his songs such as “Me and My Girlfriend”. This song is similar to “Brenda’s Got a Baby”, and the message is obvious.

“Street Fame” is a pretty good track. It’s a pretty tough sounding track like “Hellrazor” off of R U Still Down?

“Whatchu Gonna Do” is the next track, and it’s not too great. The beat is pretty shitty, and the lyrics are the usual Pac lyrics.

The next song is “Fair Exhchange” which is obviously on there to attract a mainstream crowd. The song is really bad, worst song on the CD. Worst of all, there’s 2 versions on this CD, the remix and the regular one.

“Late Night” is just a song to kick back to, and I enjoy it. The beat is pretty nice, and the lyrics are pretty good. One of the best on the CD.

“Ghetto Star” isn’t too great, but it’s not the worst song on the CD. There’s nothing too bad about it, but the beat could use a lot of work.

“Thugz Mansion (Acoustic)” comes next, and it’s a great song. There’s 2 versions of this song on the CD, and this is the better version. Strange seeing an acoustic rap song, but it’s awesome, and features Nas. It’s about how thugs need a place other than heaven to go when they die, called “Thug Mansion”. “Thug Mansion” is the first single off of the CD.

Disc 2:

“My Block” starts off Disc 2, which is an awesome song. The beat is very nice, and they did a great job on making the underground beat look like crap. The lyrics are nice as usual, but the only thing that irks me is the children singing the chorus. This will be the second single off of the CD.

The regular version of “Thugz Mansion” comes out, which the Acoustic version outshines. It’s still a pretty good song though. This version doesn’t feature Nas though, which his unfortunate.

“Never Call You Bitch Again” comes next, which has a nice beat. It’s similar to “Keep Ya Head Up”, but not close to as good. It’s still a good song, and the message of the song is obvious. Tyrese sings the hook, and sounds pretty good.

“Better Dayz” is the next song, and it’s a great song. It features Ronald Isley A.K.A. Mr. Biggs. The beat sounds nice, and everything is going good for this song. I’d like to see it as one of the singles off of the CD.

“U Can Call” comes next, but it’s not too good. Pretty poppy beat, which doesn’t sound like a 2pac beat. It’s just another one of those songs that was made to attract the mainstream crowd.

Talk about messing up the underground beat. “Military Mindz” comes next, which was completely ruined by Afeni. The original was a great song, but this beat is fucked up. Not even close to as good as the original.

“Fame” is next, and it’s got a nice beat. One of the best songs on the album. 2pac is talking about how there’s so much pain while he’s trying to make money and become famous.

“Fair Exchange (Remix)” is next, which as I explained before, sucks. The remix does have a nicer beat, but it’s still a pretty crappy song.

“Catching Feelings” is the next song, and it’s pretty good. One of the best on the CD, because of the lyrics and the unique sounding beat.

“There You Go” and “This Life I Lead” were both better when they had the original underground beats. They really shouldn’t have been messed with. I’m not feeling either track too much, but 2 good tracks are coming.

“Who Do U Believe In”, which was also on Chronic 2000, is a GREAT track. The lyrics are very nice, and the beat goes well with it. This one wasn’t messed with, and I’m glad they left it how it was. Probably my 3rd or 4th favorite songs on the CD.

“They Don’t Give a Fuck About Us” is the best track. The beat is great, and the lyrics are superb. The message is that nobody gives a fuck about 2pac when he’s not famous, but when he becomes a hero for children, they want him gone. Interesting how it’s very relevant to his death.

The "Outro" is pretty spooky, and I’m not spoiling it.

Comments: Not the best 2pac CD, but it’s a very good one. Definitely better than the last release “Until The End of Time”, but it’s debatable to compare this with “R U Still Down”. “Better Dayz” does have some very good tracks though, but also some very bad tracks.
