Rating ("1-10" or "CLASSIC"): 9
Best Song: Every Monday
I think this might be the highest rated one hit wonder on the site…

The Marvelous 3. The one hit wonder no one remembers, despite the fact that their hit only came a few years ago (in 1998, to be exact). Anyway, their brand of pop-rock does not sonically do much to try to distinguish itself from the pack, only bringing excellent hooks, lyrics and riffs to the table to show what they got.

The album kicks off with "You're So Yesterday," the perfect intro to this album with its powerful delivery and simple melodic playing. All the music here is often compared to Cheap Trick, and this song is no exception (catch those "doo doo doo's," man). The big hit, "Freak of the Week" follows it, and in an odd twist of irony, it's a song by a one-hit wonder about being a one-hit wonder. Perceptive, eh? Anyway, "Until You See" is a rocking power ballad and "Write It on Your Hand" is a fun pop rock song.

The first two real highlights here are "Let Me Go" and "Every Monday." "Let Me Go" is a sweet plea with some beautiful falsetto parts, and "Every Monday" is a mostly acoustic number that manages to be sweet and funny at the same time. The subtlety of the production on this track allows it to rise above the other 11 songs.

"Indie Queen" follows it well, in the same style. Of course, when I say these songs are in the same style, that's not to say that any of them really sound the same; HEY!Album is as diverse a set can get without going into more than one genre. The next song, "#27" is unremarkable but still catchy. "Mrs. Jackson" (not related to the Outkast song, which does not feature the letter "r" in the title) follows in its footsteps.

The final trio of songs, however, give "Every Monday" a run for its money (that is, if songs had money, and if songs competed with each other) in the "Best Song" part of the header (wow, how wordy is that?). "Over Your Heads" "rawks it hard" with some clever lyrics. "Vampires in Love" is the catchiest song on the album (and how can you hate a song that has the line "Now I know that I suck at this, you suck at it, too, so now we're nothing more than vampires in love?"). The finale, "Lemonade" is probably, lyrically, the best song here.

The main strengths of the Marvelous 3 (in general, not just here) are lead singer/guitarist Butch Walker's incessantly catchy tunes and the energetic delivery of the rest of the band. While they never show instrumental virtuosity, the production and lyrics more than make up for it.
